Stephens Old Village Restaurant is a small family-style diner tucked up off of Harrison Avenue in Cheviot. Stephens doesn’t have a big reputation around town for chili, but it is prominently featured on the large sign above the storefront. The small interior consists exclusively of booths lining both walls and two rows down the center. The menu is chiefly home-style sandwiches and dinner items, but they do also have a full selection of Cincinnati-style chili. What did our chili mavens think of the chili served up at Stephens Old Village Restaurant? Read on to find out:Overall Rating:
The food was pretty good, flavorful. The portions were good. The prices were fine. The staff was very friendly. A little bit of a geographical challenge for a regular lunch stop, but if you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Travel kept me away from the chili tour this week so I made a preemptive stop at Stephens Old Village Restaurant in order to contribute a review. For me, everything was just slightly above average. The chili was good, but didn’t do anything to stand out among the competition. The coneys were competently assembled though a bit on the messy side. Service was friendly and the prices were reasonable. Nothing was bad, but there are just better options out there.
Stephens was a step up!
Stephens coneys had a very balanced chili/cheese/dog/bread ratio. Their chili was fairly flavorful, with a more liquid than meat consistency. The cheese fries were regular straight cut fries cooked well and topped with a decent amount of freshly shredded cheddar….they could have had a bit more cheese on them, but overall they were pretty good cheese fries.
